Spanish side Valencia CF will try to take advantage of Everton’s current financial trouble – by making a tempting bid to sign their playmaker Mikel Arteta.
The report also suggests that playing regularly in La Liga could help him make a last ditch attempt to feature for his country. Despite spending 6 solid seasons with Everton at the Barclays Premier League, the 29-year-old is yet to win a senior cap for Spain and was previously eyed by England manager Fabio Capello to play for the Three Lions via citizenship swap. Already reaching his career peak, time is definitely running out for Mikel Arteta to play at international level.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have also been monitoring 29-year-old Arteta’s situation closely as they too are interested in bringing the Spaniard back to his homeland.
In order for Everton manager David Moyes to ease the club’s financial problems, Manchester United target Jack Rodwell will be allowed to leave Goodison Park for around £20m while Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool are all keen on the Toffees’ England full-back Leighton Baines.
