No Gerrard, No Problem

5-star Show

Despite Steven Gerrard’s absence in the squad, the Three Lions were able put up an impressive performance to emerge victorious against Wales at the Millennium Stadium.

England striker Darren Bent inspired his side to a satisfying 2-0 win over their Welsh opponents after the Aston Villa man inflicted a solid display. Bent netted in the second goal for England just eight minutes after Frank Lampard converted an early penalty.

Wayne Rooney then picked up a yellow card after fouling Joe Ledley before half-time – meaning that he will be ineligible in his side’s crucial upcoming fixture against Switzerland at Wembley.

England were in control throughout the match. Midfielder Scott Parker, who finally won his first cap in four years, started alongside Arsenal hotshot Jack Wilshere in midfield while Ashely Young simply outshone his opponents after a tremendous performance down the left flank.

The win meant England are now the leaders of Group G with 3 wins and 1 draw from 4 matches.
