The German International who plays for Werder Bremen, Per Mertesacker is aiming a move to a top Premier League side, and Arsenal and Liverpool FC are set to pounce, after a rather difficult season for the defender
Mertesacker’s contract with Bremen will expire in 2012, meaning that the Bundesliga club can only demand a substantial fee for him this summer, but he insists “now is not the time” to discuss where he will be playing next year.
Arsenal and Liverpool FC are keeping their tabs on the German International, as he would come quite cheap, being that he only has 1 year left on his contract by the time the summer transfer window arrives. Arsenal want him to fit both at left back and center back when needed whilst Liverpool need a permanent left back, being that there’s been noone who has properly filled the void at that position.
Bremen are 12th in the Bundesliga, just four points above the relegation zone with seven games remaining. According to many players, fans and professionals, Mertesacker’s form has dropped this season, and it is one of the reasons why Werder Bremen are lingering in the bottom half.
