What Almost Was For Bayern Munich: Bayern 3-2 Inter

Another year of wait

Bayern Munich’s Champions League campaign came to an end yesterday night, crashing out on away goals to Inter Milan, the team that beat them in the final of the same competition last year

They were so close, but for the second year running, they are simply so far, Bayern Munich went out on away goals yesterday to a very attacking minded Inter Milan in the return leg. Bayern had already secured a good 1-0 loss at the San Siro, and were hoping to seal the deal back in Germany, but they crumbled under the pressure from Inter Milan.

The San Siro outfit came out with guns blazing with, Eto’o latched on to a pass by Pandev and then cooly finished of the move for Inter Milan. Bayern Munich then equalized courtesy of a spill by usually-reliable goalkeeper Julio Cesar when saving from an Arjen Robben shot, Mario Gomez fired in the rebound for the Bavarians.

The home side then went ahead on both the night and were 3-1 up on aggregate courtesy of Muller’s sweet finish following great work by midfielder Thiago Motta. After that, Bayern had several other chances to finish off the match, but they didn’t manage to make them count, but it was Inter who scored on the hour, Sneijder smashing a superb strike from 20 yards into the net.

The aggregate victory was completed when Inter striker Goran Pandev scored to finish the night off right at the death. This means that Inter Milan will move to the quarters and Bayern are out of the Champions League.

This Save Also Kept Bayern Out, a phenomenal shut-out
