Ajax’s Dutch international, Gregory Van der Wiel, now faces a dilemma of three choices, which is to join Manchester City or Chelsea next season – or to stay at his current club Ajax.
The Eredivisie champions lost their Uruguayan hitman Luis Suarez to Liverpool recently during the January transfer window after The Kop gave them a tempting offer they simply couldn’t afford to decline.
After making an impressive signing by bringing Brazilian defender David Luiz into the squad, Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti looks set to add a right back into his team as current first choice right back Paulo Ferreira is beginning to fall out of favour.
Van der Wiel was Netherland’s first choice right back during the 2010 World Cup, and has also made a few breathtaking displays against his nation’s strong rivals like Brazil and Spain.
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti will face a tough competition from Roberto Mancini as the Manchester City manager has also kept a close eye on the 23-year-old right back.
