Raul’s 69th goal in the UEFA Champions League earned Schalke a 1-1 draw against Valencia at the Mestalla stadium earlier today to help his team gain the edge in the Champions League last 16-tie.
Raul pretty much enjoyed his return to his homeland for the first time since his summer move to Schalke from Real Madrid as he comfortably slotted the ball inside the far post, beyond Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita’s reach in the 64th minute.
Valencia, in front of their approximate 50,000 fans, took an early lead in the 17th minute through Roberto Soldado’s goal. Despite being a goal down, Schalke didn’t give up and that allowed them to earn a well deserved equalizing goal 26 minutes from time.
Schalke now have a valuable away goal advantage as they get set for the second-leg clash against Valencia at their home soil.
